From Refugee Camp to Harvard Grad - April 17, 2004
Mawi Asgedom speaks to Toronto's youth
On Wednesday April 28, 2004 Mawi Asgedom, renowned motivational speaker from Chicago, will be in Toronto speaking to our youth! Some of you may recognize Mawi from his appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as in ESSENCE magazine as one of the "40 most inspiring African-Americans"!
The conference will be hosted by HYPED, a non-profit youth organization. We are hoping to see as many young people at the event as possible. Mawi's story of how he made his way from a refugee camp in Africa to Harvard University is inspirational and needs to be heard by our city's youth! There will also be a Q&A session and a book signing after his presentation!
Also, if you can't make it to the event we are looking for people to sponsor high school students from schools in Regent Park and Scarborough, who may not be able to afford their own ticket...If you would like to purchase a ticket in advance (for yourself or for one of the students) you can contact HYPED at hypedontario@yahoo.com.
The seminar will be:
at Sanford Fleming Building room 1105 @ 6:30 pm
(that's 10 King's College Road @ U of T)
and is only $10 ($5 for high school students with ID)
If you want any more info please visit www.mawispeaks.com or contact HYPED. Tickets will also be sold at the door until 7:30pm
See you there!
