Eritreans in the Greater Toronto and surrounding area celebrate Eritrea's 12th birthday

Eritreans in the Greater Toronto and surrounding area celebrated the 12th anniversary of Eritrea's independence on the 24th of May at the Ukrainian Cultural Center. The ceremony began at 8:00pm and ended at around 3:30am. More than 1000 Eritreans attended the ceremony. Videos and pictures were available for purchasing along with food and drinks.

The evening began with the PFDJ chairman in Toronto, Ato Temesgen  welcoming the Eritrean-Canadians to the event. His speech was followed by the Head of Consular Affaires at the Eritrean Consulate in Ottawa, Ato Betsay Medhanie reading the 12th independence day anniversary message by President Isaias Afeworki to the gathered Eritreans. The atmosphere of the event was welcoming and joyful. The excellent band played beautifully making the event memorable. The vocalists included Almaz Tefferi and Daniel Nebiat. They were accompanied by musicians Milion Abraha and Tekie T/giorgis.

Dimtsi Eritrea News Services has also learned that a young Eritrean teenager Luwam Thomas from Toronto was playing on the band. We will have that story for you soon.
